Elk antler is one of the densest natural materials available for dogs to chew — it's the same structural tissue that supports a full-grown elk. Most large-breed aggressive chewers take 4–8 weeks to work through a single large antler. Our reviews consistently report sessions of 1–2 hours before the dog needs a break

Are elk antlers safe? Will they splinter?

Unlike cooked bones, naturally shed elk antlers are solid and gradually wear down rather than cracking or splintering under pressure. They have never been cooked or heated, which preserves their structural integrity. Always supervise during chewing, and remove once the antler is worn down to a size small enough to swallow.

Which is better for my aggressive chewer— Whole or Split?

Whole antlers are harder on the outside and take longer to work through — ideal for power chewers. Split antlers expose the inner marrow, making them more enticing but slightly easier to breakdown. For a truly aggressive chewer (50+ lbs, destroys everything), start with Whole.

Most dogs are fully engaged within 2–3 sessions. If your dog struggles with Whole antler, consider switching to Split (exposed marrow) for easier entry.

What size is right for my dog?

Large Whole is sized for dogs 40–80 lbs. If your dog is under 40 lbs, the Small size is more appropriate. If your dog is over 80 lbs, look for our XL option. When in doubt, go slightly larger — a chew that's too big is always safer than one that's too small.
