Growing up, I always had a strong passion for the outdoors. Our Spring & Summer were spent up at our family's log cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin where we were constantly going on hikes, boating, & fishing off the dock. 

As for Fall & Winter, that was always reserved for bird hunting behind our setters. When I say our dogs got a lot of miles in, I mean it. It wasn't uncommon for my dad & I to put on 10 miles a day, which meant the dogs were typically seeing 25-35 miles of running through thick aspen stands in search of ruffed grouse & woodcock.

But by the end of the season, the dogs were worn down & the hunts had to get a lot shorter. Over the years, all those miles our dogs put on really started to catch up with them & their joints started getting stiff. With the exception of a few game farm hunts that were realistically just quick 30 minute "gimme" hunts to get the dogs out, they had to be retired from hunting a few years too soon.

Fast forward about 10 years, and my personal English Setter (Trigger) was reaching 7 years old. Any dog owner can attest to that feeling one day where it just hits you right in the gut that your dog isn't a young pup anymore.

As I looked around at different nutritional products that were currently on the market, it was really surprising to see the laundry list of additives & fillers the products used to make us dog owners feel like we were "getting more".
